The 2025 Mabel Hunter Scholarship Winners
Bryson Parker won 1st place in the Mary Eakes Scholarship from SWC. He also won 1st place in the Sallie Southall Cotten Scholarship from District 4 and from the GFWC-NC. He was awarded a total of $19,000 from the 3 scholarships.
Bryson was accepted to UNC in Chapel Hill and shared this update after he finished his freshman year, “Aside from taking general freshman requirements, I took a discrete math class, a class in which we read and analyzed the whole of Dante's Divine Comedy, and some music classes. I joined a cybersecurity club that I have greatly enjoyed; learned to swing dance; helped my friend start a swing dance club; and offered weekly piano lessons to a 7th grader through the Musical Empowerment organization. I am currently applying to the computer science program (BS) and have already declared a double major with psychology (BA) and a music minor. I have enjoyed my time at Chapel Hill so far and look forward to my future years, when I will continue to learn more about my majors, make more connections, and form good habits! I am so grateful to the Woman's Club for gifting me this scholarship that helps me attend this amazing university!”
Madison Salthouse won 2nd place in the Mary Eakes Scholarship from SWC. She was awarded $1,000 from this scholarship.
Madison plans to attend UNC in Chapel Hill in the Fall 2025. She wants to explore her options and hopes to use her math skills in her chosen field.
